This was a project combining my love of the postal service, surveys, giving things away, easel-painting, and strangers. The post-painting project began in the fall of 2006 with the creation of an application form which I mailed to everyone whose email address I had and encouraged them to forward and spread around.
The goal of this project was two- or three-fold: To present paintings to as wide and diverse a public as possible. To bypass traditional and limiting ways of engaging with paintings. And to supplement/prod my own studio practice in a format which generates rapid and various possibilities of painting.
I decided to end this project in Fall 2009 with about thirty more applications to go. After three years of mailing most of my studio output away I thought it an alright idea to try selfishness. But I also got bored with the scale, focusing instead on larger paintings in my studio.
This project was partially supported by a 2007 Community Arts Assistance Program grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
*A special note for the people I didn't get to- if you've been following this project on the website and still really want something send me an email and I'll stick something nice in the mail for you*
