• -MODEL AGENCY

    Home Alone Los Angeles
    1356 Winchester Ave., Glendale, CA
    June 22-August 4, 2019
Opening reception and barbecue: Saturday, June 22, 3-8PM

    from the press release:

We are thrilled to present two incredible exhibitions that explore the formal and psychological mythology of Home Alone’s suburban identity at the geographic and cultural gateway between Hollywood and the San Fernando valley.

Chelsea Pegram has created site-specific architectural interventions that reflect and interact with the existing structure of the domestic site, while also drawing attention to the decorative impulse through arranged remnants of intimate activities.

Peter Hoffman’s oil portraits, modeled after headshots, capture the idealism and contradiction of the Hollywood dream machine. Rendered in seemingly effortless strokes and nuanced hues, Hoffman’s push and pull with descriptive and disruptive marks summon both the artifice and humanity of their subject through an empathetic eye.

    2606 N. California Ave., Chicago
    Saturday August 4, 6-10pm
    One Night Only

For this project, Hoffman is exhibiting 20 mixed-media on paper works that filter the immediate surroundings of his New Orleans home and studio. The body of work culls from a constellation of diverse sources including big-screen blockbuster sci-fi and fantasy franchises, cable TV narratives of real world Olympic success and failure, as well as observational drawings of plants in his neighbors' garden, food packaging in his kitchen and abstract cardboard sculptures in his studio. Accompanying the installation is an anti-catalog created in collaboration with the Silver Galleon Press. Rather than serving to archive or catalog the works on display, the publication will exist as an artwork in its own right. Using the drawings as source material, the new work adds another layer of detachment from the original icons.

Anyhere, but where? considers the scope of landscape imagery from the serene to the strange. As landscapes, these works do not intentionally describe the likeness of a specific place. What is presented are indications of an acquaintance, encounter, or recollection where reality is negotiable. These works linger along the boundary between the factual and the imagined, from the past or from the future, begotten by memory and experience.

Artists working in Chicago and Prague commit to concepts of the central regions. This work deals with geo political domination and sentimental backlash. In every medium, the collaborative process creates its own structure, one of chaos and acceptance of equilibrium.

  • -HOT MESS

paintings by Peter Hoffman & Caleb Lyons
    Green Lantern Gallery
    1511 N. Milwaukee Ave.
    Chicago, IL 60622
1/12-2/4/07, Opening Reception Friday January 12th

Hot Mess is both refreshing and vulgar; it has the potential for renewal within the destruction of power. Our collaboration is contradictory; we are simultaneously working with and against each other in order to challenge and visually translate the basic dilemma of applying paint on a flat surface. This dilemma is the subject; the collaboration is the medium.
